Matthew Whittle is a Lecturer in Postcolonial Literature at the University of Kent. He has published widely on issues of migration, diaspora, and the climate crisis. His co-authored book with Jade Munslow Ong, Global Literature and the Environment (Routledge, 2024) contextualizes environmental breakdown within the history of capitalist-imperialism, while his previous book, Post-War British Literature and the “End of Empire” (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016) explores responses to British imperial decline, focusing on decolonisation, Americanisation, and immigration to Britain. He is currently leading a British Academy-funded project on climate-induced migration in postcolonial and contemporary literature.
